Psoriasis Ayurvedic Care for Monsoon Flares, Pune

Psoriasis flares often worsen in Pune's monsoon. AMRUT AYU CARE™ Ghorpadi explains Kitibha and Ekakushtha, and Ayurvedic management. Call 8698282507. Every Tuesday, is our Skin, Hair & Cosmetic Care OPD.

  • Today's OPD: Tuesday Skin, Hair & Cosmetic Care, led by Dr. Amruta Amrutkar (M.D. Ayurveda, 12+ years).
  • Condition in focus: psoriasis, described in Ayurveda as Kitibha and Ekakushtha, within the Kushtha group.
  • Important: psoriasis is chronic and relapsing. Ayurvedic care supports longer settled periods and calmer skin between flares. It runs alongside your dermatologist's treatment, never as a replacement, and no prescribed medicine should be stopped to begin.
  • Booking: call 8698282507 for the Ghorpadi (Main) clinic at Solace Park on BT Kawade Road.

What Ayurveda calls psoriasis

Ayurveda groups chronic skin disorders under Kushtha. Kitibha describes thick, dark, rough patches with persistent itching. Ekakushtha describes dry, scaly skin that does not sweat.

Both are read as a Vata and Kapha disturbance in Rasa and Rakta dhatu, sustained by weak digestion and accumulated Ama. That is why treatment here does not begin at the skin. It begins at digestion.

Why monsoon is the hard season in Pune

Patients describe the same August pattern year after year. Skin stays damp under clothing for hours, and damp, covered skin stays irritated. Digestion runs at its weakest point in the Ayurvedic year, which matters when Ama is part of the picture. Sunlight disappears for weeks.

If your skin has a season it always worsens in, that repetition is the most useful thing you can bring to a consultation.

Our Tuesday OPD approach

  1. Full assessment. Flare pattern, triggers, scalp and nail involvement, joint symptoms, digestion, and sleep.
  2. Digestion first. Deepana and Pachana to correct Agni and clear Ama.
  3. Shodhana where indicated. Virechana is the classical mainstay for Kushtha, with Vamana in Kapha-dominant cases, both supervised here.
  4. Raktamokshana. Leech therapy, considered for stubborn, well-defined localised patches.
  5. External care. Medicated oil, Lepa, and Takradhara for scalp itching.
  6. Ahara and Vihara. Viruddha Ahara avoidance and sleep protection, with classical Ayurvedic Medicine monitored by an M.D. Ayurveda doctor.
  7. Review at 4 and 12 weeks. Kushtha protocols move slowly. Individual outcomes vary.

Four monsoon habits that steady the skin

  • Dry the patches properly. Pat dry rather than rub, and change out of wet clothes within the hour.
  • Oil before the bath, not after. A thin layer of a suitable medicated oil holds moisture in when the air will not. Ask your doctor which oil suits you, and skip any inflamed or weeping area.
  • Drop Viruddha Ahara this month. Milk with fish, curd at night, and heavily sour or salty food sit worst when digestion is slow.
  • Protect your sleep window. Short sleep and high stress precede most flares patients describe.

Safety, stated plainly

Do not stop or reduce any medication prescribed by your dermatologist in order to start Ayurvedic care. The two run alongside each other.

New joint pain, swelling, or morning stiffness in the fingers needs evaluation for psoriatic arthritis. Sudden widespread redness over most of the body, or pus-filled lesions with fever and shivering, is a medical emergency. Go to a hospital the same day.
