Vamana is the classical Panchakarma procedure for excess Kapha: supervised therapeutic emesis after several days of preparation. At AMRUT AYU CARE™ Pune, Vamana runs at the Ghorpadi and Manjri Bk, Hadapsar branches under M.D. Ayurveda doctors, after an assessment. Call 8698282507.

Key Takeaways
  • Vamana is one of the five classical Panchakarma procedures. It removes accumulated Kapha through supervised, medicine-induced emesis on a single procedure day.
  • A Vamana course runs in three stages: Poorvakarma preparation over 3 to 7 days, the supervised Vamana day, and Samsarjana Krama, a graded return to normal food.
  • Ayurveda times Vamana to Vasanta, the spring season from mid-February to April, when accumulated Kapha liquefies and is easiest to remove.
  • Vamana is considered for Kapha-dominant presentations after a doctor's assessment. Pregnancy, uncontrolled blood pressure, heart disease and marked weakness rule it out.
  • Vamana is performed at AMRUT AYU CARE Ghorpadi and Manjri Bk, Hadapsar. Consultation is available at all 5 Pune branches and online.
Read this first. Vamana is a supervised medical procedure, never a home remedy, and never a treatment for poisoning or an emergency. It is not given in pregnancy, in uncontrolled blood pressure or heart disease, in active bleeding, in children or the frail, or in marked weakness. Prescribed medication for any condition continues exactly as directed, and the full list comes to the assessment. Sudden breathlessness, chest pain or a severe allergic reaction needs emergency care.

The Ayurvedic View: Kapha and Vasanta

Kapha is the principle of structure and moisture. Through winter it accumulates, and in spring the warming weather liquefies it. Ayurveda describes this as the season when heaviness, congestion, seasonal cough with phlegm and sluggish digestion rise together.

Vamana clears that accumulated Kapha from its main seat in the stomach and chest, so that Ayurvedic Medicine and daily routine work on a cleaner ground afterwards. It is a cleansing step within a longer plan, never a stand-alone fix.

What Happens in a Vamana Course

1
Assessment
Consultation with Dr. Prashant Amrutkar or Dr. Amruta Amrutkar, with reports and medication list, to confirm Vamana suits you and to set the preparation plan.
2
Poorvakarma, 3 to 7 days
Snehapana, internal oleation with medicated ghee in rising doses, then Abhyanga and Swedana. A Kapha-increasing diet on the last day readies the body.
3
Pradhanakarma, the Vamana day
In the morning at the clinic, a classical Vamana preparation is given and supervised emesis follows. The doctor monitors the whole process. Full rest for the day.
4
Samsarjana Krama
A graded return to normal food over the following days, starting with thin rice gruel, so Agni, the digestive fire, recovers gradually. A review visit closes the course.

Who Vamana Suits

Vamana is considered for adults with Kapha-dominant presentations after assessment. These are the patterns the doctors see most. Any condition on this page is managed alongside your existing medical care, never in place of it.

Kapha-type respiratory patterns
Seasonal cough with heavy phlegm, chest congestion, and allergic tendencies that worsen every spring.
Kapha-type skin patterns
Skin conditions with heaviness, oiliness and itching where the doctor judges cleansing appropriate before Ayurvedic Medicine.
Digestion and weight
Sluggish digestion, heaviness after meals, and Kapha-type weight gain.
Seasonal maintenance
People who take a Vasanta Vamana each year as part of ritu-charya, the seasonal routine.

When Vamana Is Done

The classical season is Vasanta, from mid-February to April. AMRUT AYU CARE runs an annual spring Vamana camp in that window. Outside the season, Vamana is considered case by case, where the doctor judges the Kapha pattern and the strength of the patient suitable.

Vamana and full Panchakarma run at our Ghorpadi and Manjri Bk, Hadapsar branches. Wagholi offers in-person consultation. Kharadi and Viman Nagar consult online.

What Vamana Costs

Vamana is a course, not a single sitting, so the cost follows the plan. Three things decide it: the number of Poorvakarma days advised, the preparation medicines used, and whether supporting therapies such as Nasya are added. The full plan and its cost are confirmed at the assessment, before anything starts. Call or WhatsApp 8698282507 to ask.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Vamana painful or uncomfortable?

The emesis itself is brief and supervised. Most patients describe tiredness and mild weakness for a day or two afterwards, which the rest day and the graded diet are designed for. Any fever, severe pain or persistent vomiting afterwards needs immediate review.

How long does a full Vamana course take?

Usually 7 to 10 days: 3 to 7 preparation days, the Vamana day itself, and the graded return to food. The exact length is set at the assessment.

Who should avoid Vamana?

Pregnancy, uncontrolled blood pressure, heart disease, active bleeding, marked weakness, children and the frail. The doctor screens for these at the assessment and says plainly when Vamana is not suitable.

How often is Vamana done?

Classically once a year, in spring. Some patients with a Kapha-dominant pattern are advised a seasonal Vamana each Vasanta; others need it once, if at all. The doctor decides case by case.

What diet follows Vamana?

Samsarjana Krama: thin rice gruel first, then thicker gruel, then light khichdi, then normal food over several days. Cold, heavy, fried and fermented food is avoided through recovery.

Is online consultation available?

Yes. Kharadi and Viman Nagar patients, and families outside Pune, consult online for the assessment. The preparation days and the Vamana day itself need presence at Ghorpadi or Manjri Bk, Hadapsar.

What results should I expect?

Vamana supports management of Kapha-dominant patterns. Outcomes vary by constitution, condition and how well the recovery diet is followed. We do not publish a success figure, and no result is promised.
