Colorectal Cancer Chemo Support: Sunday OPD in Pune

Every Sunday, AMRUT AYU CARE™ runs a dedicated Cancer Support & Panchakarma OPD at our Ghorpadi clinic in Pune. Today's focus is colorectal cancer. Families ask us one question more than any other: how do we keep the patient eating, resting and strong through chemotherapy? This update explains what our support care covers and how to book a Sunday appointment.

Support care alongside oncology, never in place of it

Chemotherapy, surgery and radiation remain the primary treatment for colorectal cancer. We never ask a patient to pause or replace them. Ayurvedic Medicine takes a defined supporting role: manage the side effects, protect digestion, maintain strength, and guide the family. We coordinate with your oncologist's plan and time every supportive measure around your treatment cycles.

What the Sunday OPD addresses

- Nausea, taste loss and low appetite during chemotherapy

- Bowel comfort and digestion (Agni) after surgery or radiation

- Deep fatigue between cycles, through Rasayana protocols for strength (Bala) and immunity (Ojas)

- Personalized diet rules (Pathya): what to cook, when to serve, what to avoid

- Caregiver guidance: daily routine, rest windows, warning signs that need the oncologist

Why digestion comes first

Colorectal cancer treatment lands directly on the digestive system. Surgery changes how the bowel works. Radiation and chemotherapy unsettle appetite and taste. Ayurveda reads all of this through Agni, the digestive capacity. Our first goal is simple: keep the patient able to eat small, warm, freshly cooked meals, because nutrition decides how well the body tolerates the next cycle.

Who benefits from a consultation

Patients at any stage: newly diagnosed, mid-chemotherapy, post-surgery, or in recovery. Caregivers benefit equally. Every Sunday consultation produces a written home plan, so the family knows what to cook, how to structure the day, and when to call the oncology team. Starting early gives more time to stabilize appetite and strength before side effects build.

What to bring to the first consultation

Bring the oncology file: diagnosis summary, current chemotherapy schedule, recent blood reports, the operation summary if surgery is done, and every current prescription. The doctors read the conventional treatment plan first and build the support plan around it. If the patient is too unwell to travel, a family member attends in person or the whole consultation moves online.

The written home plan

Every Sunday consultation closes with a written plan the family takes home. It lists the weekly diet chart with cooking instructions, meal timings matched to treatment days, the daily rest routine, prescribed Ayurvedic Medicine with dosage and timing relative to chemotherapy, and the specific warning signs that need the oncologist immediately.

Doctors leading the OPD

Dr. Prashant Amrutkar (M.D., PhD Scholar, Panchakarma, 15+ years) leads the cancer-support practice, with Dr. Amruta Amrutkar (M.D. Ayurveda, 12+ years). Gentle, oncologist-coordinated therapies run at our Ghorpadi clinic, Solace Park on BT Kawade Road, opposite Kalashankar Bus Stop, which holds the full Panchakarma facility.

Frequently asked questions

Does Ayurveda cure colorectal cancer?

No. Ayurvedic Medicine does not cure cancer and we never claim it does. Our role is support care alongside oncology. Conventional treatment remains primary.

Will support care interfere with chemotherapy?

The plan is designed not to. We review the oncology protocol first, keep your oncologist informed, and time supportive measures around cycles. Bring all current prescriptions.

What should the patient eat during chemotherapy?

Small, warm, freshly cooked meals, served at regular times. Avoid cold, heavy and stale food. The Sunday consultation converts this principle into a personalized weekly chart.

Do caregivers attend the consultation?

Yes, and we encourage it. Caregivers receive the written home plan and learn the daily routine, rest schedule and warning signs.
