Knee Pain Ayurvedic Treatment in Pune, Thursday OPD

Knee pain (Sandhivata) is treated at our Ghorpadi clinic in Pune with root-cause Ayurvedic Medicine and Janu Basti. Book Thursday's OPD on 8698282507. This Thursday, 23 July 2026, our Pain Management OPD focuses on knee pain, the complaint that fills our monsoon appointment book faster than any other.

Here are the five things to know before you book:

  • Ayurveda calls degenerative knee pain Sandhivata, a Vata disorder of the joint.
  • The plan covers internal Ayurvedic Medicine, Janu Basti therapy, and a joint-load reduction routine.
  • Early and mid-stage knee wear responds better than advanced structural damage. Individual outcomes vary.
  • Dr. Prashant Amrutkar, M.D., PhD Scholar in Panchakarma with 15+ years of practice, leads the OPD.
  • Full Panchakarma runs at Ghorpadi. Book on 8698282507.

Why Pune Knees Hurt More in July

The first step out of bed hurts. Stairs take longer. Sitting cross-legged on the floor stopped being possible somewhere last year.

Knee pain builds through years of standing work, extra body weight, old injuries, and long two-wheeler commutes. Monsoon damp then stiffens the joint further. Cold and wet conditions aggravate Vata dosha, which is why our joint pain OPD fills through July and August.

What Sandhivata Actually Means

Vata governs movement and dryness in the body. When Vata rises, it depletes the Shleshaka Kapha that lubricates the joint space. The surfaces lose their cushion and cartilage wears faster than the body rebuilds it.

A second driver runs alongside. Weak digestive fire, called Agni, leaves metabolic residue known as Ama. Ama settles in the joints and sustains the swelling patients describe as a deep, dull ache. A painkiller quiets the pain signal for a few hours while both drivers continue their work.

What Treatment at Ghorpadi Covers

At AMRUT AYU CARE™, the protocol is built on four pillars:

  1. Internal Ayurvedic Medicine matched to your prakruti, pacifying Vata and reducing Ama.
  2. Janu Basti, where warm medicated oil is retained over the knee inside a dough ring.
  3. Abhyanga and Patra Pinda Sweda to loosen the muscle groups guarding a painful joint.
  4. Basti therapy where the Vata imbalance runs deeper than the knee alone.

A quadriceps strengthening set and a diet that lowers joint load complete the plan. Ghorpadi is our main centre with the full Panchakarma facility, so therapy runs on site.

Who Benefits Most

Patients with morning stiffness, stair difficulty, swelling, or grinding on movement gain the most. Our doctors grade the stage of wear at the first visit and set expectations honestly. Advanced structural damage receives supportive care and a frank discussion of surgical timelines rather than a promise.

Questions Patients Ask

Is Sandhivata the same as osteoarthritis?
Sandhivata corresponds closely to knee osteoarthritis. Ayurveda describes the mechanism as aggravated Vata drying the joint, then treats that root rather than the pain signal alone.

How long does a Janu Basti course take?
Janu Basti is given as a course, not a single sitting. The number of sittings depends on your stage of wear. Your doctor sets the schedule at the first consultation.

Should I stop my painkillers?
Never stop prescribed medication on your own. Bring your current prescriptions to the OPD and the doctor will advise on sequencing.
