Netra Tarpan is a classical Ayurvedic eye therapy in which warm medicated ghee is held over the open eyes inside a ring of dough. At AMRUT AYU CARE™ Pune, it is offered for dry, tired and strained eyes after a doctor's assessment, alongside your eye specialist's care, at the Ghorpadi and Manjri Bk, Hadapsar branches. Call 8698282507.

Key Takeaways
  • Netra Tarpan (also Akshi Tarpan) is a localised Snehana, an oleation therapy for the eyes: warm medicated ghee is pooled over the eyes for about 20 to 30 minutes per sitting.
  • Ayurveda reads eye strain and dryness through Vata and Pitta in the Alochaka Pitta, the seat of vision. Tarpan nourishes and cools.
  • It suits dry eyes, screen strain, tired and burning eyes, and recovery after long hours of close work, as judged at assessment.
  • It is not a treatment for cataract, glaucoma, retinal disease, infection or injury. Those stay with your ophthalmologist, and Tarpan is considered only alongside that care.
  • Netra Tarpan is performed at AMRUT AYU CARE Ghorpadi and Manjri Bk, Hadapsar. Consultation is available at all 5 Pune branches and online.
Read this first. Sudden loss or blurring of vision, eye pain, a red eye with discharge, flashes or floaters, an injury, or any eye condition already under an ophthalmologist needs that specialist first, not an Ayurvedic booking. Netra Tarpan is never done during an active infection, in an injured eye, or in the weeks after eye surgery without your surgeon's clearance. Prescribed eye drops continue exactly as directed.

What Netra Tarpan Is

Netra means eye and Tarpan means nourishment. A soft ring of black gram dough is built around each eye socket, and warm medicated ghee, selected for your pattern, is poured in until the open eye is covered. You are asked to blink gently and move the eyes so the ghee reaches every surface. The ghee is held for 20 to 30 minutes, then drained, and the eyes are cleaned and rested.

Ayurveda places vision in Alochaka Pitta, and reads dryness, burning and strain as Vata and Pitta rising in that seat. Ghee, cooling and unctuous, is the classical vehicle for settling both. That is the whole rationale of the procedure: nourishment and rest for tissue that modern work rarely gives a break.

Who Netra Tarpan Suits

The doctor decides after examining the eyes and asking about screen hours, sleep and general health. These are the patterns where it is most often advised.

Dry and burning eyes
Grittiness, burning and watering from long screen hours, air-conditioning or dry weather, where lubricant drops give only brief relief.
Screen and reading strain
Tired, heavy eyes and headaches after close work. Tarpan is paired with rest rules and a routine for breaks.
Recovery and maintenance
People in visually demanding work who take a short Tarpan course a few times a year as maintenance, alongside routine eye checks.
Supportive, alongside your ophthalmologist
Selected long-term eye conditions where the ophthalmologist has no objection to a nourishing therapy alongside their treatment. Never in place of it.

What Happens in a Sitting

1
Assessment
Eye examination and history, including screen use, sleep, allergies and any ophthalmology reports or drops. The doctor confirms Tarpan suits you and selects the ghee.
2
Preparation
A gentle face and head massage settles Vata. The dough ring is built and sealed around each eye.
3
The Tarpan
Warm medicated ghee, such as Triphala Ghrita or Mahatriphala Ghrita as the doctor selects, is poured in. You blink and move the eyes gently for 20 to 30 minutes.
4
Closing
The ghee is drained, the eyes are cleaned, and you rest with the eyes closed. Bright light and screens are avoided for the rest of the day.
5
The course
Usually 5 to 7 consecutive sittings, repeated as the doctor advises. Home routine for breaks, palming and sleep continues between courses.
Netra Tarpan runs at our Ghorpadi and Manjri Bk, Hadapsar branches. Wagholi offers in-person consultation. Kharadi and Viman Nagar consult online, with sittings scheduled at Ghorpadi or Hadapsar.

What Netra Tarpan Costs

Netra Tarpan costs Rs 1000 per sitting, for both eyes. It is advised as a course, so the total follows the number of sittings the doctor advises. Nasya or a head therapy paired with it is charged separately. The full plan and its cost are confirmed at the assessment, before anything starts. Call or WhatsApp 8698282507 to ask.

Most people describe cooler, more comfortable eyes over a completed course, alongside rest rules and routine. Outcomes vary by individual, and no result is promised. Netra Tarpan does not replace an eye examination or any treatment your ophthalmologist advises. This page is educational and not a substitute for a consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Netra Tarpan improve eyesight?

It is not a treatment for refractive error, and we do not claim it changes your spectacle number. It nourishes and rests the eye surface and muscles. Comfort, dryness and strain are what most people notice change.

Does it help cataract or glaucoma?

No. Cataract, glaucoma, retinal disease and infections stay with your ophthalmologist. Where that specialist has no objection, Netra Tarpan is considered alongside their treatment as a nourishing therapy, never in place of it.

Is Netra Tarpan safe?

Performed by a trained doctor with fresh, warmed ghee after an eye examination, it is a gentle procedure. It is not done during infection, in an injured eye, or after eye surgery without clearance. Mild blurring for an hour afterwards is usual.

How many sittings are needed?

Usually 5 to 7 consecutive sittings for a course. Some people repeat a course a few times a year as maintenance. The doctor sets the plan at the assessment.

Do I continue my eye drops?

Yes. Prescribed drops continue exactly as directed. Tell the doctor about every drop and medicine you use, and bring any ophthalmology report.

What should I avoid after a sitting?

Bright sunlight, screens, wind and dust for the rest of the day, and cold water on the eyes. Rest with the eyes closed for a while, and sleep early.

Which branch offers Netra Tarpan?

Ghorpadi (Main) and Manjri Bk, Hadapsar. Wagholi offers in-person consultation. Kharadi and Viman Nagar patients consult online, with sittings scheduled at Ghorpadi or Hadapsar.
